Sports Association Launched - The Hethersett and Meltons Sports Association was launched at Park Farm Hotel on Monday 28th February. We have set-up a special section of this web site for Association news and you can read about the inaugural meeting and news from the various groups involved by clicking here.

Your Votes Are Needed - Hethersett's Yvonne School of Dance are challenging for a £1,000 prize after performing outside Norwich Forum. Now it's down to you as to whether they take home the money as the dance competition will be decided by internet votes. Football Success - Hethersett Athletic has been named the Crown Fire South and Central Norfolk team of the month for December/January. The club will be presented with a certificate and match ball at the Primary League Cup semi-final against West End on Hethersett Memorial Playing Field on March 12th. Hethersett are currently top of the Crown Fire second division having gained promotion in the past two seasons. December and January saw them unbeaten in both league and cup matches and the award comes exactly a year after their previous team of the month success.

High School Quiz - The Friends of Hethersett High School are holding a quiz night on 19th March in Hethersett Village Hall. Tickets are £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for students with a maximum of eight in teams. Teams can be booked by e-mailing here.


Players Change - Hethersett Players have changed their next production. Originally they were due to perform Noel Coward's comedy Blithe Spirit, but this has been changed to Curtain Up on Murder by Bettine Manktelow. The murder mystery evening will also include a fish and chip supper and will take place in Hethersett Village Hall from 7th to 9th July.

Celebrating Books - Hethersett Library is marking World Book Day with a celebration evening on March 3rd from 7 p.m. The evening will be a celebration of much loved books along with discussions about favourite reads of both the past and present. There will also be an opportunity for the public to share their own stories and poems and also hear readings from short stories and poetry. Those attending will be given an introduction to book resources available through the internet. Refreshments will be provided and more information is available on 01603 810188.


Crafty Library - Yet another successful craft morning was held at Hethersett Library on the last Saturday of January when the subject was the art of patchwork. The workshop was led by Sally Caulk who brought along examples of different types of patchwork and patterns and everyone went home itching to begin a project. The next craft morning will feature crocheting and will be on Saturday February 26 from 10.30 a.m onwards. Again there will be the chance to have a go along with expert help. 


Dance Dates - The Hethersett based Yvonne School of Dance is holding a quiz night this Saturday (February 12th) in Hethersett Village Hall and tables are still available. The event will raise funds for the schoolís 2012 dance show which will be held in Norwich Theatre Royal. A number of other fund-raisers have also been lined-up including a childrenís disco in Hethersett Village Hall on February 29th, an Easter raffle and a picture quiz. In addition the school will be holding its presentation and group medal day on June 5th at the Walter Roy Theatre in Cecil Road, Norwich. The event will include the presentation of certificates and awards as well as performances by pupils. Teams of up to eight can enter Saturdayís quiz and the cost is £5 per person. Festive Fund-Raiser - A singing Father Christmas, seasonal Hethersett weather and plenty of good cheer helped to raise well over £200 from Tony and Margaret Duntonís annual Christmas lights. For the 16th year in a row the couple lit up their home in Firs Road, turning their garden into a winter wonderland over the festive period. As a result £260 was raised from donations and will be split between the local doctorsí surgery and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Another Panto Success - Hethersett's annual village pantomime is now in its 42nd year and as good as ever. To read a report and view photos of the production of Snow White click here. This year's pantomime raised £2,100 for the Wymondham based Star Throwers cancer support charity. A cheque was presented to Wendy Winterbottom from Star Throwers by musical director Tony Press at the end of the final performance. The show also made a profit of about £3,000 which will be divided amongst local organisations and charities.
