Hethersett - Our Village

The following information was given to the judges of the Pride in Norfolk Community of the Year competition on their visit to the village. It underlines the fantastic community that we have and the massive number of organisations that take place here:

Hethersett is a large village with an even larger heart.

Our reason for nominating Hethersett for Norfolk Community of the Year is quite simple. Winning the award would be recognition for a wonderful community that works together for the benefit and well being of everyone living here.

Probably the simplest way of illustrating this is with a list of activities and organisations that underline the incredibly diverse nature of what is happening in Hethersett. We have activities and groups to cover all tastes and ages from babies to the elderly. The following is meant to be a simple guide to just some of the good things happening in a village we are extremely proud of.

Hethersett Facilities

All four schools are active in the community with many of their pupils taking part in out of school groups such as scouts and guides, drama groups, sports clubs etc. In addition the schools are regularly featured in the local Media, the latest example being Hethersett Junior School which has become one of only 30 schools nationally to be selected to take part in a solar schools initiative. This green theme is an important part of Hethersett village life. The four schools are also part of the Get Set network which enabled them to give support to the 2012 London Olympics and also to benefit from the programmes and resources.

Four schools - Hethersett High School, Hethersett Old Hall School, Hethersett Junior School, Hethersett Woodside Infant and Nursery School.

The last two years has seen Hethersett take giant strides forward in the fields of fitness and well being with a number of new sports groups being set-up. Many of these groups have national standard awards and the Hethersett Social Running Group has been named Run England’s Eastern Region Club of the Year for 2012. Many of the groups fall under the auspices of the Hethersett and Meltons Sports Association which was founded in February 2011 and which goes from strength to strength. In 2013 many of the groups will be supporting and promoting efforts to encourage local people to walk and cycle in the village rather than using vehicles.
