Celebration Year by Eugene Ewart

This is a very special year

With two reasons to celebrate

And show to all, both far and near,

How much we value Queen and State.

A superb year it’s sure to be

In the U.K. and Hethersett

Olympics and the Jubilee -

No better combination yet.

For sixty years she’s reigned supreme

With Prince Philip by her side :

A most exemplary Queen

Who’s held the Commonwealth with pride.

A special treat for Jubilee Year

Comes to the Park, Sunday, June 3rd

An Old English Jubilee Fair

So tell your friends, if they haven’t heard.

Our village Open Weekend begins

On Friday, 22nd June,

Offering many sports and things

Like hot dogs, games and toy balloons.

And on one extra special day

There’ll be a unique chance to cheer

The Olympic Flame will come our way –

That’s Thursday, July 5th this year.

Hethersett earned more acclamation –

Norfolk Sporting Village of the Year,

A further call for celebration

Something else for us to cheer

And how timely for Hethersett

To encapsulate last year

Revealing in a fine booklet

The diverse range of Nature’s fare.

So Hethersett has shown the way

In this Royal Jubilee Year

And with the Olympics underway

There’ll be  lots more for us to share.

Eugene Ewart,

March 2012
